Mezzo and Lachi – Genius (Remix)

We bet we’ve got a combination of musical styles for you here that you never would have considered before today. What happens when you take Beethoven’s 5th symphony, a Labrinth, Sia & Diplo cover, and an a cappella arrangement and merge them all together? As it turns out, the answer is brilliance. NYC based artist Lachi and all-female a cappella group Mezzo have teamed up to create the ultimate cover of LSD’s Genius (Remix). And yes – that’s the one with the Lil Wayne feature, too. Curious yet?

With all these seriously contrasting genres, the natural thought is to assume that there’s too big a gap to bridge here. That couldn’t be more false in this rendition of this song. Both Lachi and the performers in Mezzo have pulled this unquestionably unique and genre-bending performance together in a way that at times feels like it has stronger continuity than the original.

Lachi’s vocals are a true highlight, handling the rap with clear grace and ease – and to top it off, she arranged the track as well. The performances from the singers in Mezzo are in perfect sync with each other throughout, bringing a combination of impressive vocal intricacies and soulful, smoky emotion in the melodic hooks. The modern production is the cherry on top of this track, tying everything together – even the inclusion of that classical symphony we mentioned – seamlessly.

Trust us – this is such an innovative and impressive arrangement that it’s far better listened to than talked about. Take a listen to Lachi and Mezzo‘s cover of Genius (Remix) below.
